Adult Programs

Support to Veterans Events

Pike-Wayne Trout Unlimited members support local veterans programs such as Fin Chaser Warrior Outdoors and Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing. These programs aim to use the power of the outdoors, fishing, and a supportive community to assist veterans in healing the wounds of war. Chapter members, many of whom are veterans themselves, assist veterans in learning all aspects of fly fishing. Through bi-monthly events, participants learn casting, fly tying, leader building and rod building skills that are reinforced with on-the-water experiences on local streams. These experiences lead to friendships and bring a connectedness and community to participants, removing the isolation that many veterans feel.

Casting for Recovery

Casting for Recovery (CfR) provides healing outdoor retreats for women with breast cancer, at no cost to the participants. The retreats are open to women of all ages, in all stages of treatment and recovery. These retreats connect women to each other and to nature using the therapeutic sport of fly fishing. On the last day of the retreat, PWTU members and others are assigned to guide a participant for day of fly fishing and fun on the water. Women need more than treatment—they need connection, community, and the chance to feel whole again.
