These celebrations offer a special way to connect with our region’s rich history while enjoying time with friends and neighbors. Join us as we honor local traditions and keep our community spirit alive all year long.
River Clean Up
Each year, volunteers come together for our Annual River Clean Up to help keep our waterways healthy and beautiful. Armed with gloves, trash bags, and a shared passion for conservation, participants remove litter and debris along the riverbanks and streams that flow through our community.
This event not only improves water quality and habitat for fish and wildlife, but also strengthens the connection between people and their local environment. Everyone is welcome to join, together we can make a visible difference for our rivers and future generations.
Fish Stocking
Every year, the PA Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) stocks Pennsylvania streams with over 3 million trout. Stocking typically begins in February and continues through spring after Trout Season Opening Day in early April. Stocking also occurs later in the fall.
The PFBC relies on volunteers to carry out the stocking program. Pike-Wayne Trout Unlimited members, along with many other anglers, assist PFBC staff in stocking streams in Pike and Wayne County. Stocking schedules and starting locations are posted on the PFBC website here.(insert link). Members assist with carrying buckets of fish from special transport trucks and placing fish directly into the stream. There can be as many as twenty or more locations along a stream where fish are released as part of any one stocking event.
Fish for Kids Day
Pike-Wayne Trout Unlimited supports Dreher Township's annual Fish for Kids Day, held every year in May at the Carlton Drake Memorial Park on the banks of Wallenpaupack Creek in Newfoundland, PA. In addition to providing volunteers to assist in the fishing, the PWTU chapter assists in funding the free food, provided by the Phillips-Zacharias-Phillips American Legion Post 859.
