Our Chapter and Master Members offer various fly-fishing classes, from beginner introductory classes to advanced fly tying and on-water fishing events. These programs can be customized to the needs of your community or private group. Cost Varies: Some introductory classes are free (or low-cost to TU members), while schools and private groups may require a Donation or Grant to cover PWTU’s involvement and expenses needed for the event.

Learn to cast a Fly rod from PWTU members such as George Simon, a past president of the Long Island Fly Rodders and a Fly Fishers International (FFI) Certified Master Casting Instructor. George provides knowledge for both the new angler and the most seasoned veteran. George has taught at Boy Scout jamborees, at West Point, and at numerous local events. He has demonstrated fly casting at major fishing and outdoor shows throughout the country. He has a wealth of information and enjoys sharing it with others.

We also offer Classes in Fly Tying for all levels with Master members. These classes will introduce students to the tools and techniques needed to enjoy this relaxing and fulfilling pastime. Understanding trout’s feeding habits and then translating this knowledge to create your own flies, can be as enjoyable as a day on the water. Our members will share their knowledge and experience to create: dry flies, nymphs and streamers which imitate the things that fish feed on.  Imagine the special feeling of catching a fish using a fly that you have created!

What to Expect:

Equipment: We can provide Rods, Reels and Tying materials for many events. We may also be able to obtain a waiver for fishing licenses for the event if needed.

Format: Classes can range from single-day workshops to multi-day courses, which includes on the water sessions.

Fly Fishing and Fly Tying: These Events are a fun and a meaningful way to spend time in Pennsylvania’s beautiful Nature.
